
Rheumatology Rehabilitation Unit
The Rheumatology Rehabilitation Unit opened in 1961 to provide medical rehabilitation for patients with rheumatic disorders. This is an extension of the rheumatology service at St. Vincent’s University Hospital. Despite the continuing expansion of the rheumatology services throughout Ireland, no other service has a similar affiliated unit.
The rheumatology health-care team also known as the multidisciplinary team comprises of:
- Consultant Rheumatologists.
- Consultant Psychiatrist.
- Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
- Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
- Clinical Nurse Specialists.
- Clinical Facilitator.
- Doctors.
- Ward Managers.
- Nurses.
- Physiotherapists.
- Occupational Therapists
- Social Workers.
The major goal of this healthcare team is to facilitate a holistic approach to the care of each patient.
Other Education activities within the unit include:
- Annual Rheumatology Rehabilitation Symposium now in its 7th year. For 2006 we will focus on Cardiovascular Risk in Rheumatic disease.
- Graduate Diploma in Clinical Practice (Rheumatology) in conjunction with UCD. The 5th intake of students will commence in October 2006.
- Regular In-service Education includes monthly combined Rheumatology Orthopaedic Conference; fortnightly educational sessions open to all staff & Rheumatology Module (FETAC) for Care Assistants.
