The Nursing Information Research Exchange (N.I.R.E.) aims to utilise web technology effectively in order to provide resources which:
- Are accessible from the workplace and home in order to:
- Remove geographical boundaries.
- Allow use at the individual’s convenience.
- Allow vast amounts of information to be disseminated and used.
- Facilitate the expansion of knowledge and skills in order to:
- Provide highly interactive resources.
- Facilitate users to be more active and interactive.
- Facilitate learning in order to:
- Allow individuals to study at their own pace.
- Provide flexibility for learning.
- Provide competency self-assessment resources.
- Expand information resources in order to:
- Provide evidence-based decision support resources.
- Provide connections to external Internet resources.
- Provide a warehouse of published and unpublished nursing research and evidence.
- Facilitate Information exchange in order to:
- Increase and promote opportunities for communication.
- Facilitate the sharing of appropriate information and expertise.
- Provide a forum to interact and collaborate with colleagues.
- Facilitate the standardisation of practice.
- Facilitate and support the enhancement of the quality of care that is delivered to patients.
