The Nursing Information Research Exchange (N.I.R.E.) aims to utilise web technology effectively in order to provide resources which:

  • Are accessible from the workplace and home in order to:
    • Remove geographical boundaries.
    • Allow use at the individual’s convenience.
  • Allow vast amounts of information to be disseminated and used.
  • Facilitate the expansion of knowledge and skills in order to:
    • Provide highly interactive resources.
    • Facilitate users to be more active and interactive.
  • Facilitate learning in order to:
    • Allow individuals to study at their own pace.
    • Provide flexibility for learning.
    • Provide competency self-assessment resources.
  • Expand information resources in order to: 
    • Provide evidence-based decision support resources.
    • Provide connections to external Internet resources.
    • Provide a warehouse of published and unpublished nursing research and evidence.
  • Facilitate Information exchange in order to:
    • Increase and promote opportunities for communication.
    • Facilitate the sharing of appropriate information and expertise.
    • Provide a forum to interact and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Facilitate the standardisation of practice.
  • Facilitate and support the enhancement of the quality of care that is delivered to patients.


It is intended that this resource will develop and expand with time.
